Puerto Rico |

There's been horse racing in Puerto Rico for over a century, and horse breeding has developed to the highest levels, making it far and away the leader in the Caribbean Region. Puerto Rican-bred stallions continue to perform well in the U.S. and Latin America.
Camarero is the only thoroughbred track in the country, located just outside the capitol city of San Juan. With a stable of about 1,300 horses, races are held five days a week with about $210 million bet each year.
The Clasico Internacional del Caribe is the major racing event at Camarero, the richest thoroughbred Grade I stakes race in Latin America for three-year-olds, at 9 furlongs with a purse of $300,000. Other races included during the series include the Copa Velocidad (Caribbean Sprint Cup - 6 furlongs), Dama del Caribe (Caribbean Ladies' Classic - 8.5 furlongs), The Invitational Cup- 10 furlongs and the Confraternity Cup- 10 furlongs for 3yo+. |
