With Father's Day just around the corner, so too is golf's third major championship, the U.S. Open, which will descend upon Pinehurst, North Carolina for the 124th edition.
With the largest purse of the four major championships, the winner will receive close to $4 million of the $20 million purse along with the silver U.S. Open Championship Trophy.
World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler is a heavy favorite (+360) to win his first U.S. Open title and already claimed the first major of the calendar year, the Masters, before finishing in a tie for eighth at the PGA Championship last month.
Scheffler was embroiled in a bit of chaos during the second round of the PGA Championship, when he was arrested ahead of play while trying to enter Valhalla Golf Course as police investigated a tragic accident that occurred earlier in the morning. He was able to return to the course to make his tee time and shot 5-under-66 in the second round. However, in the third round, he finished 2-over and was unable to recover. Xander Schauffele, who shot 9-under-62 in the opening round to record the lowest score in PGA Championship history, went on to win his first major championship title at the Louisville golf course.
Below YouBet takes a look at the top golfers favored in the third major championship of the year as well as everything else you need to know ahead of the 124th U.S. Open.
