Coco catapults into Australian Open title contention
American teen tennis sensation Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff has suddenly shot into contention to claim her first Grand Slam tournament, after her shocking straight sets defeat of Naomi Osaka at the 2020 Australian Open.
The 15-year-old swept past the defending Australian Open Champion 6-3, 6-4 in the third round at Melbourne Park. The win saw Gauff become the third-youngest woman to progress through to the Round of 16 at the Australian Open after Martina Hingis (1996) and Steffi Graf (1984).
BetAmerica players responded to Gauff’s win by supporting her into a +1100 fifth favorite to capture the year’s first major tournament. Gauff commenced the Australian Open as a +15000 outsider.
