Big 12 Week 4 picks: Kansas State vs. Oklahoma, Texas vs. Texas Tech

It is officially Week 4 of the college football season and the third week for Big 12 teams. Last week, saw another game postponed due to COVID-19. That left only one game, and yet again, the Big 12 team failed to cover.

The Big 12 kicks off its conference schedule this weekend with all 10 teams in action across five games. Let's break down the two biggest matchup on the slate and provide betting odds and picks for each.

Kansas State Wildcats vs. Oklahoma Sooners, Noon ET, FOX

Both teams enter this contest coming off vastly different results two weeks ago. Kansas State took an upset loss at home to Arkansas State, while Oklahoma destroyed FCS opponent, Missouri State. The Sooners dominate this series with a 75-20-4 record straight up dating back to 1914. The Wildcats were able to pull off the 7-point upset last season, but Oklahoma covered the previous four games between these two.

Oklahoma proved in their first game of the season that they could continue to churn out incredible quarterbacks in the Lincoln Riley offense. Spencer Rattler put up 290 yards passing with four touchdowns on only 17 pass attempts. Meanwhile, the Wildcats surrendered 330 yards passing and five touchdowns in their opener against much lesser talent.

In the last three seasons, Kansas State is 7-3 ATS in road games. Oklahoma is 7-7 ATS in home games. The trends favor the Wildcats here, but Oklahoma’s defense will be too much for the Kansas State offense to try to keep pace with. Give me the favorites here.

NCAAF pick: Oklahoma -28

Texas Longhorns vs. Texas Tech Raiders, 3:30 p.m. ET, FOX

These two rivals meet for the 69th time on Saturday. The Longhorns lead the series 51-17 and have won nine of the past 11 matchups. Last season, Texas put up 49 points with a 25-point victory and covered the spread easily.

Both teams enter this matchup coming off wins two weeks ago. However, they were two vastly different types of victories. The Longhorns smashed UTEP by 56 points while the Red Raiders struggled to defeat their FCS opponent, Houston Baptist, by two points.

Texas returning quarterback, Sam Ehlinger, shined in the opener with 426 passing yards and five touchdowns. The defense was also impressive allowing only three points and 233 total yards of total offense.

The Red Raiders got an impressive outing from their redshirt sophomore running back, SaRodorick Thompson. He finished with 118 yards rushing with two touchdowns on 22 attempts. The big issue was the defense, as it allowed 572 yards passing and four majors. If they want to stay in this game, they have to perform much better.

This matchup sets up perfectly for Ehlinger and the Longhorns. While I do expect Texas Tech to try to establish a running game and keep the Texas offense off the field, Ehlinger is going to put some major yards through the air. I'll take the Longhorns in another blowout.

NCAAF pick: Texas -17
