SEC football Week 6 picks: Florida vs. Texas A&M & 4 more

The upcoming Lane Kiffin-Nick Saban reunion makes for great headlines, but the most intriguing SEC matchup of the week can be found in College Station, Texas.

Undefeated Florida will go for its third win of the season against an arguably overrated Texas A&M squad that got embarrassed by Alabama last week.

Let's break down the clash between the Gators and Aggies and provide picks for four more mouthwatering SEC matchups in Week 6.

#4 Florida vs. #21 Texas A&M

Back when Jimbo Fisher coached Florida State, his Seminoles dominated intrastate rival Florida 7-1 in the series.

In 2017, Fisher left for Texas A&M, and former Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen accepted the Gators’ head coaching job.

Over the past three seasons, Fisher has posted an 18-10 record with the Aggies, while Mullen has gone 23-5 in Gainesville.

On Saturday, Fisher will meet Florida for the first time as head coach of A&M and attempt to re-establish his authority over the Gators.

The cards are stacked against him, as 1-1 A&M has looked far from intimidating in a 17-12 win against Vanderbilt and 52-24 loss at Alabama.

The Aggies rank 10th in the SEC in points scored, while Florida comes in second (44.5), only behind the Crimson Tide.

A&M’s defense is a concern, as well. The unit allowed Vanderbilt’s Ken Seals to complete 20 his 29 passes. The next week, Alabama’s Mac Jones completed 20 of his 27 throws, for 435 yards and four passing touchdowns, against the Aggies.

Through two games, Florida’s Kyle Trask has connected on 71.8% of his passes, for 684 yards and 10 scores, and has thrown just one interception.

Against two unstable defenses, Trask will outduel Aggies quarterback Kellen Mond (58.3% passing, four touchdowns, one interception) to pull out the win.

Pick: Florida -6.5

Missouri vs. #17 LSU

After losses to No. 2 Alabama and No. 21 Tennessee, Missouri will attempt to right its offensive woes against a ranked LSU team.

New coach Eli Drinkwitz owned the No. 9 scoring offense (38.5 points per game) at Appalachian State last season, but his Tigers have failed to register more than 19 points in a game.

Missouri ranks fourth to last in yards per game (333) in the SEC and second to last in points.

LSU found its stride against Vanderbilt and put up 498 total yards in a 41-7 rout.

Even with the matchup moved to Columbia because of Hurricane Delta, LSU will roll to a double-digit win.

Pick: LSU -14

#14 Tennessee vs. #3 Georgia

The SEC’s best defense will host a 2-0 Tennessee team that is searching for its ninth consecutive win, a streak that dates back to last October.

Both Tennessee and Georgia are solid in the ground game and force opposing offenses to make mistakes. The Vols rank ninth in the country in turnover margin (+1.5), one notch above Georgia (+1).

Compared to Tennessee, the Bulldogs' résumé is far more impressive, with decisive victories at Arkansas and against No. 7 Auburn, which Georgia defeated, 27-6, last week.

The Bulldogs own a 24-23-2 series lead over Tennessee and will pull out a close win Saturday.

Pick: Tennessee +12.5

Arkansas at #13 Auburn

Auburn was outgained by 226 yards in its loss to Georgia, as Tigers quarterback Bo Nix completed 21 of his 40 passes for 177 yards and was intercepted once.

Arkansas also suffered a 37-10 defeat to Georgia, which outgained the Hogs by 107 yards in Week 4. Florida transfer Feleipe Franks tossed two interceptions for Arkansas, including one returned for a touchdown, but improved in a win against No. 16 Mississippi State.

In that upset victory, the Arkansas defense intercepted K.J. Costello three times and held the Stanford transfer to 313 yards, a game after he set the SEC passing record with 623.

The Razorbacks will come back down to earth against Auburn. The Tigers defeated Kentucky, 29-13, in Week 4 and should bounce back for a similar win Saturday.

Pick: Auburn -13.5

 #2 Alabama at Ole Miss

Kiffin has his offense putting up 536 yards per game (first in the SEC), but the defense is so abysmal (600.5 yards per game) that the Rebels hardly have a shot against Saban’s Crimson Tide.

More good quotes from Lane Kiffin about Nick Saban:

“Everyone thinks it’s an advantage that I’ve worked with (Saban). But if it’s an advantage, why is he 20-0 against his former assistants? If you think it’s an advantage, you’re not a very good gambler.”

— Nathanael Gabler (@nategabler) October 5, 2020

Jones and Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral rank first and third, respectively, in passing efficiency. Neither quarterback’s defense has been especially good against the pass, but the Crimson Tide still has the upper hand.

Saban is 20-0 against head coaches who formerly worked under him, and just last week. he defeated former assistant Fisher and Texas A&M, 52-24.

Expect another shootout, but Alabama will win.

Pick: Ole Miss +24
