What's next for Amanda Nunes after UFC 250?

Greek philosopher Plutarch once wrote, “When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer.” When looking at the incredible run of Amanda Nunes, especially off yet another dominant victory over Felicia Spencer over the weekend, there is no clear option for one of the most destructive champions of all time.

Nothing but class from the 🐐

Simply put, Nunes has beaten anyone worth mentioning across two weight classes and has done it so convincingly that there is no need for a repeat.

Nunes isn't ready to call it a career

That being said, Nunes is not going to pack up her bags and end her legendary career. Though it might be a stretch to find the next big fight for the woman who’s beaten them all, there are plenty of rising foes and old rivals to still take down.

A Nunes vs. Cyborg II would be must-see TV

If the UFC is looking to put Nunes in a mega fight situation, then Dana White will have to work his magic and mend fences with Cris Cyborg. Though Nunes stopped Cyborg in the first round of their epic encounter, Nunes/Cyborg II is still the biggest fight that can be made in women’s MMA. A tense meeting between Cyborg and White regarding a rematch with Nunes and her time with the promotion ultimately lead to her departure to Bellator.

Money does talk, and with the UFC the only business in town for combat sports at the moment, a cross promotion with Bellator or a temporary release from any obligations Cyborg has to make the Nunes fight is not outside the realm of possibility. If Cyborg can’t be lured back to the octagon, Nunes’ next big fight could come against another old foe and one of the toughest opponents of her career.

Dana White says he knows why Cris Cyborg isn't interested in a rematch with Amanda Nunes: "Amanda Nunes will knock her out again in the first round. I know it, you know it and she knows it. She will not do that fight. "

Shevchenko looms as a possibility

Valentina Shevchenko’s dominance has been nearly as impressive as Nunes’, and "Bullet" is still hopeful she can avenge her two losses to Nunes in due time. Considering the close nature of their previous two bouts, and with no other legitimate challengers on the horizon, a third fight is almost a given at this point.

Nunes is in the driver's seat

With titles in two weight classes, Nunes can also have her pick of the litter for an endless amount of filler fights. Megan Anderson would be a decent opponent if nothing else emerges at featherweight, while clashes at bantamweight against the once beaten Aspen Ladd and Ketlen Vieira would be a hard sell as a main event in anywhere else other than Nunes’ native Brazil.

Victories over the likes of Cyborg, Shevchenko, Ronda Rousey, and Holly Holm have done more than enough to establish Nunes as the greatest female fighter of all time. Now, her greatest fight yet is going to come against complacency while waiting for her next worthy opponent to rise up from parts unknown.
