Although the NASCAR Season officially began last Sunday with The Clash, true NASCAR fans wait until the Daytona 500 before celebrating the season’s beginning. This is the first major event of the season, so if you're new to the sport, the 2019 Daytona 500 betting board is a great place to start. Only 20 drivers entered their vehicles and started their engines for The Clash. One of the Daytona 500 race favorites - Kyle Busch - finished in the second half of the field, finishing 14th. Overall, Kyle’s never had great success at Daytona International Speedway, and although the new rules gives the better drivers more of an edge, Busch didn’t respond last Sunday.
One driver that did respond to the new rules last Sunday is 2018 Monster Energy Cup champ Joey Logano, who finished 3rd. He won the 2015 Daytona 500 and offers excellent odds. Among the favorites, Joey’s the pick.

Daytona’s a restrictor plate course, which means cars slow down. An emphasis is placed on positioning and driving skills. It’s also important for the crew chief and driver to be on the same page.
That’s why it’s so interesting that Jimmie Johnson won The Clash. Kevin Meendering became Jimmie’s crew chief just this year. Meendering’s got experience with Hendrick Motorsports, though. So, in that respect, it makes some sense.
Can Johnson and Meendering make it back to back at Daytona? They’ve got an excellent shot. Hendrick Motorsports isn’t messing around. Changing Jimmie’s crew chief has already paid dividends. It could again on Sunday and at +2800 odds, you'd be hard pressed to ignore Jimmie on the board.

It’s hard to understand why William Byron’s offering +4000 odds to win the Daytona 500. Sure, he’s a rookie, but look who his crew chief is?
Hendrick Motorsports didn’t just fire Jimmie Johnson’s crew chief and replace him with Kevin Meendering. Hendrick made Jimmie’s former crew chief Chad Knaus the man to get rookie Byron up to speed as quickly as possible.
He’s already done that. Byron won the pole for the Daytona 500 on Sunday by racing at 194.305 by beating Jimmie in Duel #1. Not only did Byron win the pole, he also raced faster than Duel #2 winner, Alex Bowman, who clocked in at 194.154 mph.
Byron starts first and Bowman starts second. Both drive for Hendrick, which is why Byron gets the nod over Bowman. The odds difference is too big for me to ignore.
On another note, it’s important to watch the Daytona 500 on Sunday. Hendrick’s really looking to get back on top. They already won The Clash with Jimmie and both Duels with William Byron and Alex Bowman.
If Hendrick wins the Daytona 500 on Sunday and has excellent finishes with a couple of their other drivers, we might have a shot to play against favorites all year long by backing Hendrick drivers: Chase Elliott, Jimmie Johnson, William Byron, and Alex Bowman.
