NASCAR FireKeepers Casino 400 betting odds and preview
NASCAR fans will be treated to a Cup Series doubleheader this weekend at Michigan International Speedway that begins on Saturday with the FireKeepers Casino 400. Despite the race title, a carryover from before the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated the postponement of this event, the drivers will cover 312 miles over 156 laps.
Kevin Harvick, as usual, has been installed as the betting favorite at +375 despite dropping consecutive races in this role. If he loses once more, these are the three drivers that are most likely to pull off the upset.
Joey Logano (+700)
Ford drivers would seem to have a major advantage at Michigan International Speedway. "The Blue Oval" has taken four straight races at the two-mile course in Brooklyn and 39 overall since the track opened in 1968. That's a NASCAR record for most wins by one manufacturer at one course. No. 22 Ford driver Joey Logano, who won this exact race when it was held last June, could notch his fourth career victory at Michigan on Saturday afternoon.
Logano is second among active drivers in laps led at Michigan with 572, behind only Jimmie Johnson, who has 700. He’s also fifth in average finishing position at 12.2. Logano has placed in the Top 5 in two of three races following the All-Star event. By virtue of random draw, "Sliced Bread" will start from the pole position.
Martin Truex Jr. (+800)
It’s hard to believe Martin Truex Jr. has just one win on the year when he's in the hunt practically every week. Settling for third in his last two races has to sting, but perhaps he’ll finally break through at Michigan on Saturday.
Truex has excelled at this course since the introduction of stage racing in 2017, winning four stages while leading 187 laps. His average finishing position in that six-race span is 11.8. Truex will roll off the grid in 12th place.
Cole Custer (+5000)
It’s not that far-fetched to think No. 41 Ford driver Cole Custer could notch a second upset victory in the Firekeepers Casino 400.
Custer had an average finishing position of 8.3 in three Xfinity Series races at Michigan. Including his stunning win at Kentucky, Custer has four Top 10 finishes over his last five races. The Cup Series rookie begins the day in 16th place.
