With the timeline shortened and the winner on the horizon, only three names are being offered when it comes to NBA MVP betting odds. Let’s break down each of the three names, why they are here, and why they could potentially walk away as the league’s best player.

Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder

The young point guard is the driving force behind the best team in the NBA. The Thunder won 68 games this season, going from open to close as the best group in the league. Alexander leaped forward, becoming arguably the best player in the game in the process.

SGA led the NBA in scoring, averaging 32.7 points per game. He also finished 14th in the NBA in assists per game with 6.4, showing his ability as a distributor. SGA showcased that he is an elite defender, finishing tied for fourth in the league with 1.7 steals per game.

SGA does everything at an elite level and is the driving factor behind the best team in basketball. The fact that he led the league in scoring solidifies his place at the top of the list. That said, we'll cover another important factor in the next section.

Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets

Jokic is the three-time NBA MVP and winner of last year’s award. Another win would put him in rare territory. He would become just the sixth player in history to win the award four times. Doing so in a five-year span would make him one of the most elite players to have ever come along.

Jokic did everything statistically that one could ask. He finished third in the league in points (29.6), third in rebounds (12.7), second in assists (10.2), and second in steals (1.8), showing his dominance throughout the season on both ends of the floor.

There is one major factor going against Jokic, and it isn’t a fair one: voter fatigue. He faced this issue in 2022-23, when many felt like he was worthy of winning the award for the third consecutive season. Some feel like SGA has been good enough to justify going away from Jokic and getting some “fresh blood” in the mix for MVP. That said, Jokic certainly has the resume to be crowned league MVP.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks

Giannis continues to be one of the game’s dominant superstars. Even as the Bucks face challenges with consistency and injuries, Giannis persists. He finished second in the NBA in scoring this season, averaging 30.4 points per game for a Bucks team that won 48 games.

In addition to coming close in the league scoring race, Giannis showed his value on the other end of the floor. He averaged 11.9 rebounds per game, 1.2 blocks, and nearly a steal per game. All of this while adding 6.5 assists per game for a team that feels limited in depth.

Giannis would be a fine choice for MVP in virtually any other year. He’s been there before, but this is a tough pick because of the dominance displayed by both SGA and Jokic. Even being named a finalist would be a big accolade in this kind of season.

Who Will Win NBA MVP?

For much of the season, it felt like a two-horse race. A strong argument can be made for Jokic to capture his fourth MVP, but it seems like voters are looking for something new. SGA has been dominant for the best team in the league, and has the resume needed to be MVP. Unless something drastic happens, look for SGA to capture his first MVP.
