NBA Notebook: Steph Curry has been historically good

The NBA is always must-see TV, but that's been especially true in April, as teams around the league have been sprinting towards the playoffs. Let's examine the three juiciest storylines from around the Association.

Stephen Curry is on an unprecedented run

Stephen Curry is arguably the greatest shooter in NBA history, and he is currently in the middle of a streak that is truly unprecedented. Prior to Wednesday night, Curry had recorded 11 straight 30-point games, and five 40-point games in the month of April alone. Over the last five games, he has made an unthinkable 46 threes, and capped it with five straight made threes in the fourth quarter against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night. His six games with 10+ threes this season are better than any other player in NBA history has over the course of their entire career.

Curry has carried the Golden State Warriors to a .500 record and the ninth-seed in the Western Conference with his superb play. His record-setting statistics tell one part of the story, but the film tells more. What Curry is doing on the court is pure wizardry, and we are fortunate to get the opportunity to witness it.

Anthony Davis' return is imminent

Anthony Davis has been out since Feb. 14, and as a result, the Los Angeles have slipped to the fifth-seed in the Western Conference. Luckily for the Lakers, the eight-time All-Star is set to return to the court tonight against the Dallas Mavericks.

If the Lakers are to stay within the top-6 seeds, they will need Davis to be effective. If the intend to defend their title, they will need him to be 100%. It will be fascinating to see precisely how Frank Vogel pairs him with recently-acquired big man Andre Drummond down the stretch.

Chris Paul and the Suns have been red-hot

Chris Paul has passed Magic Johnson for fifth on the all-time assists list, an impressive feat that speaks to both his excellence and longevity.

More than a decade after leading the New Orleans Hornets to the postseason, and following stints in Los Angeles, Houston, and Oklahoma City, Paul is now using his veteran presence and skills to guide the Phoenix Suns to the postseason.

At 42-16, the Suns have risen to second in the Western Conference and are clearly a contender. With the Clippers and Lakers not showing the same kind of dominance as last year, the Suns offer plenty of value to bettors.

The Suns will likely be favored in the first round of the playoffs, and if things hold over the next month, their second round opponent will be either the Clippers or the now Jamal Murray-less Denver Nuggets.

While it may seem unlikely Phoenix could win the title, Paul’s presence has clearly impacted this team for the better, and in ways not yet appreciated by the general public. With recent wins over the Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers, they Suns are shining bright.
