NBA Trade Rumors: Rebuilding Rockets are eyeing Aaron Gordon

This year’s NBA trade deadline is fast approaching on March 25, and several teams have big men on their shopping lists.

Let’s take a look at four of the more intriguing power forwards and centers who could be on the move.

Rebuilding Rockets are eyeing Aaron Gordon

Aaron Gordon has been a high-flying athletic power forward with the Orlando Magic for seven years, but his time with the team may be coming to an end as the team struggles to contend.

Aaron Gordon is reportedly 'eager' to welcome a change of scenery, per @JakeLFischer

Orlando has been close to dealing Gordon on multiple occasions, and with the Magic near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, it might make sense to finally pull the trigger on a trade. The Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, and Dallas Mavericks are all teams that have been circling the water, and could use a player with his athleticism and ability to fill the basket.

The Rockets, in particular, would love to pair Gordon with emerging star Christian Wood, to form one of the more promising young frontcourts in the NBA. Get used to hearing Houston's name in the next 10 days.

Is Tristan Thompson headed back to Canada?

Danny Ainge has shown in the past that he isn't afraid to shake up Boston's roster, as evidenced by the bevy of moves he's made since becoming the Celtics' GM in 2003. His next move could be trading center Tristan Thompson.

Thompson is averaging 7.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, but could see considerably less time going forward with the reemergence of guard Marcus Smart, whose return from injury could shift minutes in Brad Stevens’ starting five and force Thompson and/or fellow big man Daniel Theis into reduced roles.

One landing spot that could make sense for Thompson is Toronto. The 30-year-old center is from the city and has spent extensive time playing for Team Canada. It would be a sweet homecoming once the Raptors finally move back to the Great White North.

Lakers, Knicks, and Nets in hot pursuit of Andre Drummond

Andre Drummond has been on the trade market for several weeks, and it has increasingly become a matter of when, not if, he will be dealt. The Los Angeles Lakers have long been rumored to be the frontrunners and most active suitors, but the New York Knicks have emerged as they look to make a playoff push.

The Lakers would love to bring in a solid rebounder and interior post player that can relieve pressure on Anthony Davis and LeBron James, but the Knicks might covet Drummond even more.

Drummond would presumably prefer a chance to contend with the Lakers or the Nets, but as the Knicks hype train grows, the allure of New York City might be enough to convince Drummond to spend half a season, at minimum, as a Knick.

LaMarcus Aldridge could fill a need for the Heat and Celtics

Andre Drummond isn’t the only former All-Star big man that could be on the move. Last week it was announced that LaMarcus Aldridge and the San Antonio Spurs had mutually agreed to part ways. The Spurs are reportedly looking to trade Aldridge in return for young players or draft picks.

Aldridge has cited a desire to return to the Portland Trail Blazers, but they don’t appear to have the right combination of trade pieces to make that work. The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics both make more sense as potential destinations.
