Buccaneers vs. Eagles: TNF betting odds, preview, and pick

Tom Brady will face the Philadelphia Eagles for the eighth time in his career when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday Night Football, at 8:20 p.m. ET.

Brady goes for win No. 6 against Philly

Brady is 4-1 in the regular season against Philadelphia, with his lone loss against a Sam Bradford-led Eagles team in 2015, while Brady was a member of the New England Patriots.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner fell just one other time to the Eagles, in Super Bowl LII, in which backup quarterback Nick Foles played hero for the opposing team.

This time around, Brady, age 44, will confront Philadelphia for the first time as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer and will match up against Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is 21 years his junior.

Hurts is coming off a come-from-behind win against Carolina, one of the league's top defenses, while Brady turned in a masterful performance against Miami's bottom-five stop unit.

On Sunday, the veteran signal caller recorded his second five-touchdown outing of the season and accumulated more than 400 passing yards and five touchdown passes in the same game for the first time in his 22-year career.

Brady currently ranks first in the league in passing yards (1,767) and second in touchdown passes (15).

Receiver Antonio Brown also enjoyed a career milestone against the Dolphins. With seven catches on the day, he became the fastest player (143 games) to 900 receptions in NFL history. He also joined Julio Jones, Jerry Rice, Torry Holt, and Andre Johnson as the only players with 12,000 career receiving yards in fewer than 150 games.

Brown finished Sunday's contest with 124 yards and two scores, while Mike Evans hauled in a pair of touchdowns, and running back Giovani Bernard reached the end zone on a 10-yard catch. Leonard Fournette also rushed for a score.

The Bucs celebrated their third straight game without a turnover in the 45-17 blowout victory over Miami, and are now in sole possession of first place in the NFC South.

Hurts' fourth-quarter rise pushes Eagles to second win

Tampa Bay previously held a tie for first in the division with Carolina, who dropped the ball at home against the 2-3 Eagles on Sunday.

After falling into a 15-6 hole at halftime, Philadelphia clawed its way back, behind Hurts' two second-half rushing touchdowns and a staunch defensive effort.

The Eagles were held to just 88 yards of offense in the first half, but Hurts ended the outing with 198 yards on 22-of-37 passing and 30 rushing yards on nine carries.

Wideout DeVonta Smith accounted for 77 yards on seven catches and reeled in a two-point conversion reception to put the Eagles up 21-18 with 2:38 remaining in regulation.

On the other side of the ball, Eagles cornerback Darius Slay intercepted Sam Darnold twice, before Steven Nelson sealed the win by picking off the Panthers quarterback on the team's final drive.

Carolina's QB was also sacked three times and threw for just 177 yards, his lowest total of the season.

Prior to the matchup, the Eagles had surrendered a combined 83 points and 851 yards in their previous two games.

They'll need to put together another strong defensive performance against the Buccaneers, who own the No. 1 passing offense and third best scoring offense in the NFL.

Buccaneers and Eagles betting trends

  • Tampa Bay is 5-1 ATS in its last six games overall
  • Tampa Bay is 1-4 ATS in its last five games as a road favorite
  • Philadelphia is 4-0 ATS in its last four home games
  • Philadelphia is 5-1 ATS in its last six Thursday games
  • The Over is 4-1 in Tampa Bay's last five games overall
  • The underdog is 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings between these teams
  • The Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings

Veteran Bucs will prove too much for young Eagles regime

While Tampa Bay's offense is one of the best in the NFL, the defense is the league's worst against the pass and will let Hurts connect on a few deep passes to rookie Smith and second-year receiver Quez Watkins.

The Eagles' run game, on the other hand, will come to a screeching halt against a rushing defense that gives up just 45.8 yards per game.

Philly's defense is the antithesis of Tampa Bay's. The Eagles rank third in passing yards allowed (194.8) but third to last in rushing yards per game (142).

Brady will do enough to maintain balance in the passing game, but Fournette and the Bucs' rushing attack will spearhead a win.

Brady is 13-3 on Thursday Night Football and has never lost a game at Philadelphia.

The trend will continue in Week 6, as the 14-time Pro Bowler collects his sixth career victory over the Eagles.

Score prediction: Buccaneers 34, Eagles 24
