Colts vs. Dolphins: NFL Week 4 betting odds, preview, and pick

Miami Dolphins backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett will get a shot at revenge against his former team, the Indianapolis Colts, when the two AFC franchises clash inside Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Miami comes up short in Week 3 overtime loss

With Tua Tagovailoa relegated to injured reserve for at least the next three weeks, Brissett got his first start of the season for Miami in a Week 3 road contest against the undefeated Las Vegas Raiders.

The veteran backup posted a respectable 215 passing yards, 37 rushing yards, and ran the ball in from the one-yard line with two seconds remaining in regulation to keep his team's hopes alive.

Brissett then found William Fuller for a successful two-point conversion to send the game to overtime, where the Raiders kicked a field goal to seal a victory.

The Dolphins built an early, 14-point lead against Las Vegas in the first quarter, after Elandon Roberts returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown and Malcolm Brown scored on a 24-yard run.

Miami's offense sputtered from there and let the Raiders climb back into contention with 25 unanswered points.

Despite the loss, it was an improvement from the Dolphins' 35-0 defeat to Buffalo in Week 2, in which Brissett completed 24 of his 40 passes for 168 yards, threw one interception, and was sacked four times.

Brissett should experience far less pressure from Indianapolis' pass rush, which ranks third to last in sacks (five) and last in hurries and knockdown percentage.

Injuries continue to pile up for winless Colts

The 0-3 Colts desperately need a break, after three straight defeats and a number injuries.

In Week 3's loss to AFC South rival Tennessee, Colts defensive end Kwity Paye hurt his hamstring in the first quarter, left guard Quenton Nelson exited in the second quarter with a right ankle issue, and cornerbacks Khari Willis and Rock Ya-Sin both succumbed to injuries.

Indy has nearly a dozen players on injured reserve and can ill afford to bench another hobbled weapon, Carson Wentz, who played with two sprained ankles Sunday.

Carson Wentz has a high ankle sprain and a low ankle sprain. Today's status still in doubt - I hear he is far from certain to go - and these injuries could be an issue for weeks moving forward https://t.co/Q0MOx05zxd

In Indianapolis' 25-16 defeat, Wentz completed 19 of his 37 passes for 194 yards and failed to record a touchdown. The rushing attack was also held to just 87 yards and a nine-yard touchdown score early in the second quarter.

Indy's defense intercepted quarterback Ryan Tannehill twice and forced a fumble by receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, but it wasn't enough to overcome the AFC South's leader.

The Titans ran for 180 yards against the NFL's 28th-ranked rushing defense and were able to convert 50% of their third-down tries and three of five red-zone attempts.

Colts and Dolphins betting trends

  • Indianapolis is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games overall.
  • Indianapolis is 2-5-1 ATS in its last eight games as an underdog.
  • Miami is 6-1 ATS in its last seven home games.
  • The Over is 4-1 in the Colts’ last five games as an underdog.
  • The Under is 5-1 in the Dolphins' last six games as a home favorite.
  • The Under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these teams.

Brissett will get payback against his former team

Both of these offenses rank in the bottom 10 in scoring and passing yards per game, while neither defense has been good at stopping the run.

This matchup may turn into a low-scoring ground battle, but Indy's injuries on the offensive line could hamper the production of backfield duo Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines.

Wentz will also struggle against Miami's pass rush. The unit ranks first in the league in quarterback knockdowns and will expose Wentz and his weak ankles early and often.

Indy will keep the game close but has too many issues to overcome, as the roster continues to get decimated by injuries.

Brissett will get the best of his former team, with the help of the Dolphins defense, which will force enough mistakes by the Colts to pull out a close win at home.

Score prediction: Dolphins 24, Colts 21

NFL Week 4 pick: Dolphins -2
