Daniel Jones' record against every NFL team

*This article has since been updated to reflect Daniel Jones' record against each NFL team as of Dec. 5, 2021.

The legend of "Danny Dimes" began in the fall of 2019, when rookie quarterback Daniel Jones emerged as heir to Eli Manning's throne and became the starting quarterback of the New York Giants.

The North Carolina native was a surprise early-round pick in his draft class, and first became famous following the less-than-enthusiastic reaction of Giants fans upon Jones' selection at No. 6 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Despite the initial skepticism, fans quickly changed their tune about the Duke graduate after his breakout performance in a Week 3 matchup during his rookie season.

Thus, Giants faithful began calling their quarterback "Danny Dimes," a popular nickname that stuck. But just as quickly as Jones' star ascended in the league, the quarterback came crashing down to reality, as he, and his team, endured an array of struggles.

The 2021 NFL season will mark Jones' third year in the league. Let's look back on the young quarterback's career thus far, as we break down his regular-season record against every NFL team.

Jones vs. the Dallas Cowboys

Jones made his NFL debut in Week 1 of the 2019 season, when he entered the fourth quarter in relief of Manning.

Jones completed three of four passes for 17 yards and lost a fumble in the 35-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Jones got his only win of his career against his NFC East rival in Week 17 of the 2020 season.

In that matchup, he went 17-of-25 passing for 229 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception to lead New York to a 23-19 victory.

That’s it! The Giants win, 23-19!

They are alive for another seven hours or so! If Philly beats Washington tonight, the Giants win the NFC East with a record of 6-10.

The win snapped a seven-game losing streak against Dallas and lifted New York's season record to 6-10, the franchise's best mark since 2016.

The Giants were also in position to win the NFC East with that record, but a victory by Washington later that day broke a tie in the division and handed the D.C. team an automatic bid to the playoffs.

Jones vs. the New England Patriots

Jones played under the primetime spotlight of Thursday Night Football against the New England Patriots in Week 6 of the 2019 season.

In a battle with quarterback Tom Brady, the Giants fell 35-14, as Jones completed a career-low 48.9% of his passes for 161 passing yards, one touchdown, and tossed a career-high three interceptions.

Jones vs. the Philadelphia Eagles

Jones is 2-2 against division foe Philadelphia.

In his first meeting with the Eagles, in Week 17 of the 2019 season, Jones recorded 301 passing yards, one touchdown, and an interception in a 34-17 loss.

That contest put his season total for passing yards at 3,027, while he finished 2019 with 24 touchdown passes, 12 interceptions, and a league-leading 18 fumbles (including 11 fumbles lost).

He also set numerous rookie franchise records, including most games started by a rookie (12), most completions (284), passing yards, and touchdown passes.

In 2020, he set another franchise record against Philadelphia, when Jones rushed for 80 yards on a single play, the longest run by a Giants quarterback.

The feat was infamously punctuated by Jones losing his balance and tripping just before he reached the end zone — a moment that instantly became Internet fodder.

Impressively, Jones hit a top speed of 21.23 mph on the play, the fastest by an NFL quarterback since Lamar Jackson clocked 21.01 mph on a 37-yard touchdown run in 2018.

Jones vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Following an 0-2 start by the Giants in 2019, head coach Pat Shurmur named Jones the starter for a Week 3 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With longtime franchise quarterback Manning watching from the sidelines, Jones connected on 23 of his 36 passes for 336 yards and two touchdown passes, while he ran for 28 yards and two more scores.

His final touchdown came on a seven-yard rush with 1:16 remaining to hand New York a 32-31 win, after the team trailed by 18 points at the half.

With his Week 3 victory, Jones became the seventh NFL rookie quarterback since 2010 to have a game-winning drive in his first career start. He was also the first Giants rookie quarterback to win his first career start since Scott Brunner in 1980.

For his performance, Jones earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Jones vs. the Washington Football Team

The next game after Jones' triumphant first NFL start, he led New York to another win — this time at home against NFC East foe Washington and fellow rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

In the Week 4 contest, Jones completed 74.2% of his passes for 225 yards and a touchdown, but threw two interceptions in the 24-3 victory.

He became the third quarterback in Giants history, after Phil Simms and Travis Tidwell, to begin their career with two victories as a starting quarterback.

In Week 16 of the 2019 season, Jones made more history against Washington, as he passed for a career-high 352 passing yards and five touchdowns in a 41–35 overtime win.

The outing made Jones the fifth rookie quarterback in NFL history to throw five touchdown passes in a game. He also became the only rookie quarterback in NFL history to throw for 350 passing yards and five touchdown passes, along with no interceptions, in a single game.

Jones finally suffered his first loss to Washington on Sept. 16, 2021, when he came up short in a 30-29 nail-biter at FedExField. "Danny Dimes" threw for 249 yards and a touchdown in the loss, but was sacked four times.
