The Kansas City Chiefs are one game away from Super Bowl LVI following a thrilling overtime victory against the Buffalo Bills. They'll now face the upstart Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday in the AFC Conference Championship Game.

The Bengals previously beat the Chiefs 34-31 in Week 17 as Kansas City surrendered a 14-point lead with poor fourth-quarter defense. They will now battle for redemption and the chance to win the franchise's third Super Bowl title.

Let's go back in time and examine all four of Kansas City's Super Bowl appearances.

Super Bowl I (Jan. 15, 1967)

The first Super Bowl ever played featured the Chiefs and the Packers, with the Hank Stram-led Chiefs losing 35-10. They were down just 14-10 at halftime but were dominated offensively by the Packers in the second.

The Chiefs were led by quarterback Len Dawson, who went 16-for-27 for 211 yards, but was sacked four times.

Super Bowl IV (Jan. 11, 1970)

Three years after their defeat in the first Super Bowl, the Chiefs earned their way back after a 17-7 victory over the Oakland Raiders in the 1969 AFC Championship Game.

Coach Stram was still helming the team with quarterback Dawson, and the strong Chiefs defense led KC to a 23-7 victory over a different team from the north, the Minnesota Vikings.

The Chiefs raced out to a 16-0 lead with three first half field goals by Jan Stenerud and never looked back despite being 12-point underdogs.

Super Bowl LIV (Feb. 2, 2020)

Fifty years after their last appearance in Super Bowl IV, the Chiefs emerged from what felt like a trek across a barren wasteland to finally compete for a title again.

The Chiefs were losing to the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers 20-10 headed late into the game when Patrick Mahomes gave us one of his many career thrilling comebacks. The Chiefs scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to win the game 31-20, in a match that was far, far closer than the final score would lead you to believe.

Super Bowl LV (Feb. 7, 2021)

One year after their comeback victory in Super Bowl LIV, the Chiefs returned as small favorites to face the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Injuries to the offensive line against a talented Bucs’ defensive line was the difference in the game, as the Chiefs proved incapable of protecting Mahomes well enough for their superstar quarterback to deliver his typical offensive performance. The Chiefs scored just nine points and Mahomes threw for only 270 yards and no touchdowns in the lopsided 31-9 loss.
