Monday Night Football betting tips: Justin Herbert will pick apart the Saints

The Chargers travel to New Orleans on Monday Night Football to face the Saints after going down 38-31 to Tampa Bay in Week 4. The Saints haven’t quite lived up to some preseason expectations and come into this match 2-2, but we're expecting fireworks whenever New Orleans takes the field.

The Saints rank fifth in the league for points per game, and 26th for points conceded. It’s no surprise to see a line of 50 set for tonight's clash, and that leads us to some tantalizing prop bets.

BOOM: Justin Herbert (Over 1.5 passing TDs -140)

Justin Herbert continues to get the nod as the signal caller for L.A. The rookie sensation was just 10 yards short of his third 300+ yard passing game in Week 4 against Tampa Bay, but he still threw three touchdowns, which was a career high.

The Saints have given up 11 passing touchdowns through four games, which is a big surprise considering how highly their defence was rated coming into the season.

Austin Ekeler is on IR due to a hamstring issue, which means Herbert might have to air it out more, and if the Saints continue to have issues in the red zone, this confident rookie can take advantage.

BOOM: Hunter Henry (Over 50.5 receiving yards -120)

Hunter Henry struggled in Week 4 against Tampa Bay as his targets dropped to just four and he caught just two passes for 39 yards. He had 23 targets in his previous three games before that for 16 catches and 206 yards.

I’m hoping last week was just a minor hiccup and Henry gets back on track tonight. Jesse James, Robert Tonyan, Jace Sternberger, Darren Waller, Foster Moreau, and O.J. Howard have all put 30+ yards on the Saints from the tight end position this season which would suggest Henry can find some real joy against them tonight.

He’s likely to be matched up with Malcom Jenkins, who has allowed 12 passes from 19 attempts for a total of 130 yards against him this season. Hunter Henry should be licking his chops ahead of primetime.

BUST: Drew Brees (Under 265.5 passing yards -115)

Of all the NFL quarterbacks who have played in at least four games this season, none of them have attempted fewer passes than Drew Brees. He is ranked 25th for passes attempted and 16th for yards per attempt. Brees simply isn’t throwing it much as the Saints have adopted a very run-heavy approach.

Star wide receiver Michael Thomas is recovering from an ankle injury but even if he was good to suit up, he won’t play on Monday after an altercation with a teammate has resulted in the Saints disciplining him.

The Chargers are allowing an average of 263 passing yards per game against them this season, but Brees’ lack of throws means I’m confident taking the under.
