NFL Week 8 Prime Time Totals Betting

The league has the match-ups it wants in the NFL Week 8 prime time slot Sunday night when New Orleans (5-1) travels to Minnesota (4-2-1) in a rematch of last year’s Minnesota Miracle playoff win. But on Monday night, we get to witness the worst prime time match-up of the season when New England (5-2) travels to Buffalo (2-5) in a division series that has been as lopsided as the point spread in this week’s contest.
Some key match-ups and personnel to watch are the Saints top offensive tackles against the Vikings strong defensive front that returns pro bowl edge rusher Everson Griffen this week. However, Vikings safety Andrew Sendejo (groin) remains questionable, and a number of other key starters have missed practice this week so confirm injury reports. The Vikings' coverage of running backs ranks last in the league in yards per target (9.5) and Brees has the league’s best back catching balls out of the backfield in RB Alvin Kamara.
The Saints are the stronger team at this point, but New Orleans is in a negative situation off its grinding win last week at Baltimore 24-23 while the Vikings return home to one of the strong home fields in the league. Like the Rams-Vikings game that featured premier play calling, passers and production with both QB’s passing for more than 400 yards and 8 combined touchdowns in a 38-31 Rams win, this game sets up as another potential shootout. Buffalo is allowing just 321 yards per game to rank No. 4 in the league. At some point without the offense doing its part, the defense will break like it did last week at Indianapolis in a 37-5 defeat with zero sacks. The same Colts team that the Patriots pounded earlier this month 38-24. Two weeks ago, the Bills defense sacked Houston QB Desean Watson seven times. Recall too when the Bills defense was superb in shocking the Vikings as a 17-point dog 27-6 as league observers and bettors were in disbelief.
The Patriots' defense is in the bottom quarter of the league allowing 390 YPG including an average of 446 yards over its last three contests. Now, New England will play without CB Eric Rowe (groin) and RB Sony Michel (knee), who both left last week’s game against Chicago. Rob Gronkowski, however, should return after missing last week’s game. Monday Night Football returns to Buffalo for the first time since 2008, and the Bills will also retire Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas’s number 34. Perhaps that’s the amount of points that will be scored in this contest. The NFL doesn’t like to be embarrassed, nor do bettors or Monday Night Football home teams.
