Rams vs. Bengals: Super Bowl LVI market update

Following the NFL's longest regular season in history and a postseason filled with dramatic and surprising finishes, the 2021 campaign will come to its conclusion Sunday in Super Bowl LVI, featuring the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals.

The pair of No. 4 seeds will clash inside SoFi Stadium, the Rams' home turf. The game will mark the second time a Super Bowl team will get to play inside its own stadium in the biggest game of the year.

Just last year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first team to enjoy such home-field advantage and walked away with a dominant 31-9 win against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.

The similarities between the Rams and Bucs do not end there. Last season, Tampa Bay acquired longtime New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and built a roster around him that was made for a Super Bowl run.

Los Angeles stayed close to that formula by trading for a new quarterback, Matthew Stafford, in the offseason, and added star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller midseason.

On the flip side, the Bengals are comprised of young, promising talent on offense, including quarterback Joe Burrow, rookie sensation Ja'Marr Chase, second-year wideout Tee Higgins, and 25-year-old running back Joe Mixon.

In just Burrow's second season in the league, the former No. 1 overall draft pick guided his team from a 4-11-1 record in 2020 to 10-7 and an AFC North title in 2021.

The upstart Bengals will enter as a four-point underdog in their first Super Bowl appearance since January 1989.

Let's find out how the public is betting the moneyline, point spread, totals, and more at TwinSpires Sports ahead of the Rams vs. Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

Despite the Rams finishing with a better record (12-5) than Cincinnati and playing the Super Bowl in LA, the majority of bettors are backing the Bengals on the moneyline, at +163 odds.

Nearly 60% of all tickets and handle favor the Bengals, who were listed as a +15000 longshot to win Super Bowl LVI ahead of Week 1 of the 2021 season.

The Rams, on the other hand, were a popular pick to hoist the Lombardi Trophy all season long and were listed at +1200 odds ahead of Week 1.

While the majority of spread tickets (56%) placed at TwinSpires are on the Bengals to cover the four-point spread, 64% of handle is on Los Angeles to cover as the favorite.

The Rams are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven playoff games as a favorite and 2-1 ATS in the 2022 NFL Playoffs.

Cincinnati is 7-0 ATS in its last seven games overall and 3-0 ATS in the 2022 postseason.

Cincy is also 8-3 ATS as an underdog this season, while LA is 7-10 ATS as a favorite.

Despite both teams featuring star-studded offenses that tied for seventh in scoring (27.1 points in the regular season), most bettors expect a low-scoring battle dictated by the play of two stalwart defenses.

More than 50% of tickets and 75% of handle are on the Under (48.5) to hit in Sunday's matchup.

The Under is 27-10-1 in LA's last 38 games as a favorite and 4-0 in Cincinnati's last four games overall.

The Over has hit just once in the combined six playoff games played by the Rams and Bengals in the 2022 postseason, and the Under is 3-0 in the last three Super Bowls.

As for bets on Super Bowl LVI MVP, Rams wideout Cooper Kupp has drawn the highest percentage of tickets and the second highest percentage of handle.

The 2021 Offensive Player of the Year led the NFL in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and touchdown catches (16) in the regular season, and racked up 183 receiving yards and 142 receiving yards in the Divisional Round and NFC Championship Game, respectively.

Cooper Kupp so far this postseason:

vs Cardinals: 5 catches, 61 yards, TD

at Bucs: 9 catches, 183 yards, TD

vs 49ers: 11 catches, 142 yards, 2 TD

With 7 catches on Sunday, he would set the record for most catches in a single playoffs in NFL history (32).

Stafford's No. 1 target is a popular choice to steal the award away from his quarterback, should LA win the franchise's second Super Bowl title.

Stafford has attracted the third highest percentage of tickets, but the largest amount of handle on Super Bowl MVP wagers at TwinSpires.

Nearly 20% of all tickets and handle favor Burrow to win the award, while Beckham has lured in a small percentage of MVP bets.

Lastly, for those looking to place some novelty prop bets ahead of Super Bowl LVI, more than half of the betting public likes tails as the result of the coin toss.

However, proponents of the old adage "tails never fails" should note heads has won the coin toss in three of the last four Super Bowls.

Also, an interesting trend to keep in mind, the team that lost the coin toss has gone on to win the Super Bowl in seven straight title games. So once you see the result of this year's coin toss, you might want to rush to make a live moneyline bet on the coin toss loser!
