Ravens vs. Dolphins: TNF betting odds, preview, and pick

Both the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins got back in the win column in Week 9, and now get a short week to prepare for a Thursday Night Football battle inside Hard Rock Stadium.

Fourth-down efficiency saves Baltimore in OT thriller

A bye week wasn't enough to correct the Ravens' issues on defense, which were on full display in a lopsided 41-17 defeat to Cincinnati in Week 7.

In Week 9's matchup with the Vikings, Baltimore got badly exposed by wideout Justin Jefferson and running back Dalvin Cook in the first half, and let Minnesota build a 14-point lead midway through the second quarter.

The Ravens rallied behind quarterback Lamar Jackson, who rushed for 120 yards, which marked his 10th career 100-yard rushing performance, and tied him with Michael Vick's regular-season record for quarterbacks.

Jackson also added 266 yards through the air and three touchdown passes, but he once again struggled with late turnovers, as he threw a near-costly interception on his team's first possession in overtime.

Luckily for Baltimore, the defense came together in the second half and held Minnesota to just 114 yards, while it forced the Vikes to go three-and-out following Jackson's interception in extra minutes.

Baltimore's offense also stepped up for three crucial fourth-down conversions to extend drives and put up points on the board.

Future Hall of Fame kicker Justin Tucker iced the victory with a 36-yard field goal with 16 seconds left in overtime to hand his team its third win of the season after trailing by double digits in the second half.

Sunday's overtime contest was also the third of the year for both the Ravens and Vikings, who are 3-5, but have not lost a game by more than seven points all season.

Dolphins survive historic turnover frenzy

To hardly anyone's surprise, a matchup between two one-win teams in Week 9 resulted in a rather dismal presentation on both sides of the ball.

With a combined nine turnovers — the most since the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs squared up in September 2016 — Miami squeaked out a win at home, despite recording more giveaways than its opponent, Houston.

With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sidelined with a finger injury, Jacoby Brissett got his fourth start of the season and posted 244 passing yards and one touchdown to go along with two interceptions and a fumble.

The Dolphins lost a total of three fumbles on the day, ran for just 47 yards, and averaged 3.6 yards per play.

Somehow that was enough to get past the Texans, who have dropped eight straight since their season-opening win against the 2-6 Jacksonville Jaguars.

#Texans lose 17-9 to the Dolphins (2-7). They're 1-8, worst record in the AFC. They played to win by starting Tyrod Taylor. He threw 3 INTs. He was sacked 4 times. The offense scored just 6 points off 5 Miami turnovers. Houston turned it over 4 times. Bye week ahead.

Tyrod Taylor made his return from injury since he pulled a hamstring in Week 2, and went 24-of-43 passing for 240 yards, and was intercepted three times. Tight end Jordan Akins also coughed up a fumble with under three minutes left in regulation, as Houston trailed 17-9.

Although the Texans narrowly won the turnover battle, they were called for eight penalties for 60 yards.

With the 17-9 victory, the Dolphins scored their first win while committing at least five turnovers since Oct. 18, 1990.

Rookie receiver Jaylen Waddle achieved a game-high 83 yards on eight catches, while running back Myles Gaskin recorded his first rushing touchdown of the season.

Ravens and Dolphins betting trends

  • Baltimore is 4-1-1 ATS in its last six Thursday games
  • Baltimore is 1-5 ATS in its last six games as a favorite
  • Miami is 1-3-1 ATS in its last five games as an underdog
  • Miami is 1-4-1 ATS in its last six games overall
  • The Under is 5-1 in Baltimore's last six road games
  • The Under is 5-2 in Miami's last seven games vs. AFC opponents
  • Baltimore is 9-0 ATS in the last nine meetings between these teams

Dolphins no match for playoff contender

While Miami and Baltimore both secured victories in Week 9, one of these teams is not like the other.

The Ravens rank first in the league in rushing offense, second in total offense, eighth in passing offense, and seventh in points scored.

The Dolphins rank in the bottom 10 in all four of those categories, including dead last in rushing yards per contest.

Defense is a weak spot for both teams, but the Ravens are superior, especially against the run.

The last time Jackson played Miami, Baltimore annihilated the Dolphins, 59-10, inside Hard Rock Stadium in 2019.

The latest battle in the series will be a little closer, but the Ravens will easily cover the seven-point spread.
