Scott Shapiro's Week 10 NFL 4-Pack

Scott Shapiro

November 9th, 2018

SHARE

It was nice to win an easy one on Thursday night as the Steelers offense was way too much for Carolina to handle in a 52-21 rout at Heinz Field. Hopefully, I can keep things rolling on Sunday.

Here is my Week 10 NFL 4-Pack!

Dallas Cowboys (+7.0) at Philadelphia Eagles

The NFC East has not been one of the stronger divisions in the NFL over the first-half of the season which has left the door wide-open for the defending champions.

The Eagles come off their bye week as healthy as they have been in some time, but they have yet to play at the level they did last year. Their offensive line dominated opponents in 2017 but have struggled at times this season, and their defensive front has been unable to mask a subpar secondary like they did a year ago. Philadelphia is still the best team in the division, but this line seems a bit too high.

Dallas heads into Lincoln Financial off of a poor showing on Monday Night. They had a chance to take control of the game early against the Titans but failed to execute in the red zone. An underrated Titans defense took command from there and beat the Cowboys 28-14.

While I am not in love with the Dallas offense, I think that the addition of Amari Cooper, and encountering a defense with more holes in it than Tennessee, should allow the Cowboys to score enough points to hang in this game from start to finish. Look for a strong Cowboys front-four to pressure Carson Wentz regularly and get enough from Dak Prescott and the passing game to make this a close one.

Week 10 NFL Pick- Dallas Cowboys (2 units)

Cleveland Browns (+5.0) vs Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta heads to playing their best football of the year for head coach Dan Quinn. The Falcons got off to a 1-4 start in 2018, but have rattled off three straight victories including a dominant 38-14 win in the nation’s capital last Sunday.

There is no doubt that the Falcons offense should move the ball with an offensive line that is coming off their best effort of the season and a ton of weapons at quarterback Matt Ryan’s disposal. However, I expect their defense to be challenged much more in Week 10 than they were last week against a banged-up Washington offensive line, which should make for a high-scoring game in FirstEnergy Stadium.

I tried to get cute last Sunday taking over-a-touchdown with the Browns against the Chiefs, but that did not work out as the home team fell to Kansas City 37-21. Like the rest of the league, the Cleveland defense was unable to contain Patrick Mahomes and crew, but I liked what I saw from the offense in the first game under new offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens. Specifically, I like that he got the ball to Duke Johnson, who should be featured again on Sunday against a Falcons defense that has been unable to stop receivers out of the backfield all season. Couple that with an improving Baker Mayfield and you have an offensive attack that should be able to move the ball at will against a less than intimidating Atlanta defense.

The Falcons are on the road for a second straight week and are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 non- conference games. This one comes down to the final gun. Take the 4.

Week 10 NFL Pick- Cleveland Browns (1 unit)

Los Angeles Chargers (-9.5) at Oakland Raiders

It is rare that I am willing to lay a touchdown or higher on the road, especially in a divisional game, but I am making an exception in this AFC West tussle on Sunday afternoon. The come into Week 10 playing as well as anyone in the league as they meet a Raider team that quit on the coaching staff last Thursday night in San Francisco after trading away most of its top talent.

It is likely that Oakland will come out with energy at home with a bit of extra rest, but the Chargers are just way too loaded to not win this game going away. The Raiders may keep it close early, but Los Angeles takes control in the second half and runs away late.

Week 10 NFL Pick- Los Angeles Chargers (1 unit)

Seattle Seahawks (+9.5) at Los Angeles Rams

It is desperation time for Pete Carroll and the Seahawks. They had played good football heading into the bye week but dug themselves a hole they could not get out of at home last week in a 25-17 loss to the red-hot Chargers. Seattle has their hands full on Sunday against a Rams team coming off their first loss of the year in New Orleans, but I expect them to be able to run the ball with success and play with desperation in a game they must have if they want to make the playoffs in 2018.

The Rams head back to California after losing 45-35 in a highly entertaining game between the two best teams in the NFC. Los Angeles certainly has an elite offense, but their defense has struggled against quality competition all season despite adding several big-name players on that side of the ball. They did not do a great job of stopping this Seahawks offense on October 7th in a 33-31 win and they have given up 27 points or more in 4 of their last 6 contests.

If Seattle can continue to win the turnover battle (+9 turnover ratio this year) they should be able to score enough to hang around in a game they must have on Sunday.
