Nearly halfway through the NFL season and the best teams projected at the start of the season are leading the way. Three favorites in each conference are lording over their respective divisions as New England (5-2), Pittsburgh (3-2-1) and Kansas City (6-1) are on top in the AFC. Minnesota (4-2-1), New Orleans (5-1) and the LA Rams (7-0) head all their groupings in the NFC. That of course will lead to paying a bigger price on these favorites against most teams moving forward, especially when they play lesser teams. That alone makes tackling NFL Week 8 betting favorites are challenging task.
Look at Kansas City this week as they are laying 10 very large points against Denver, who the Chiefs had to rally to beat in Mile High 27-23 earlier this month after trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter.
New Orleans plays its toughest stretch of the season having won at Baltimore last week 24-23 when the best kicker in football, Justin Tucker of the Ravens, missed the first PAT of his career after making 222 straight extra points. Now the Saints travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in a rematch from last year’s wild NFC playoff game, and the line is a straight pick 'em. Then New Orleans returns home to play the Rams in Week 9, which will have a tight line as well.

NY Jets at Chicago Bears (-7.5) - The Bears (3-3) are taking money despite losing their last two games. Chicago did out-gain New England 453-381 while averaging a solid 5.9 yards per play in a 38-31 defeat. Special teams and turnovers were the issue, but an angry Bears team and much better defense will pressure Jets rookie QB Sam Darnold, who now has 10 INTs after 3 picks last week against the Vikings. New York (3-4) had just 263 yards offense at 3.8 yards per play in defeat and they are traveling to the windy city at the wrong time.

Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions (-3) - The Lions (3-3) are back in the NFC North chase after losing a pair of stinkers to start the season. Credit the offensive line and rookie RB Kerryon Johnson with a much improved running game, which new coach Matt Patricia said was a priority. Last week Detroit rushed for 248 yards on 35 attempts; it’s most rushing yards in two decades. This was the worst rushing team in the league over the last four years. Now QB Matthew Stafford has balance and can continue against a Seahawks defense allowing 128 rushing YPG at 4.7 yards per rush. Stafford will have success through the air against a Seahawks secondary that has not been as strong since the injury to Earl Thomas. Seattle (3-3) travels East for early start and the Lions den is stronger on defense with new DT Damon Harrison acquired in trade this week and Ezekiel Ansah returning from a shoulder injury. Lions roar.
