Undefeated NFL Teams Through Week 2

A quick honorable mention here goes to the Minnesota Vikings, who probably should be one of the undefeated NFL teams after two weeks if not for that unfortunate tie against a relentless Green Bay Packers team. I can't believe we've already had two ties this season. Maybe not as mind blowing is the fact that seven squads remain perfect heading in to this weekend's action. Which team is most likely to stay that way, and which team is most likely to fall from grace?

Los Angeles Rams (2-0 SU and ATS) Let's start with the king of the mountain from our Week 2 NFL Power Rankings. The Los Angeles Rams were one of the best teams last season, and are the pinnacle of the undefeated NFL teams after the first two weeks. They're unquestionably the scariest team in the league and have received more than enough press coverage already, so we wont' spend too much time shining their boots. We all know how good they are, and the oddsmakers have inserted them as co-favorites to win Super Bowl LII at +650 alongside the Patriots.

Next Game: LAC at LAR -7.0

Miami Dolphins (2-0 SU and ATS) Nobody's buying the Dolphins. They're one of the undefeated NFL teams heading in to Week 3, and are favored against the Raiders this weekend, but they've looked incredibly pedestrian in defeating the Titans during a lackluster affair while smothering the Jets last weekend. Their secondary has been turnover happy, but they're still allowing 270.0 yards as a unit (24th) and the passing game can't get off the ground. Tannehill pilot's the fourth worst passing attack in the league and is saved by the fact that the Fins have ben able to pound the rock. Miami has 127.5 yards per game on average when rushing, which is the 6th highest average in the league. It's only a matter of time before Miami drops a game. Nobody would be surprised if they lost to the hapless Raiders. Nobody will care if they beat them either.

Week 3 Matchup - Oakland at Miami -3.0

Cincinnati Bengals (2-0 SU and ATS) There are whacky seasons where Andy Dalton and the Bengals are steaming hot, like in the 2015 campaign where they bullied the league to a 12-4 SU and 11-3-1 ATS record. I'm not saying that the Bengals are going to win the division, but they have a habit of sneaking up on people because we never take them seriously overall. Dalton has engineered back-to-back games where the team has scored 34 points against respectable defenses. They have a two week run against Carolina and Atlanta to prove that this isn't a fluke. They also have to survive the next little while with the real difference maker on this offense, running back Joe Mixon, who is recovering from minor knee surgery.

Week 3 Matchup - Cincinnati at Carolina -3.0

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-0 SU and ATS) The Jaguars cemented their place as a true Super Bowl LIII contender by stomping the New England Patriots in the feature matchup of Week 2's afternoon slate. It's probably not a shock to many that the Jags are one of the undefeated NFL teams, but the the way in which they dispatched of Brady's Patriots to stay perfect turned a lot of heads. Bortles ran, threw and shook down a vulnerable Patriots defense. The health of Leonard Fournette is a concern for obvious reasons, but the Jaguars have an opportunity to remain unblemished for the first four games. They play Tennessee and the NYJ to round out September.

Week 3 Matchup - Tennessee at Jacksonville -6.5

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0 SU and ATS) This is easily one of the biggest surprises around the league, and couldn't have come at a better time for the franchise. As Jameis Winston continues to try and rebuild his broken public reputation on suspension, Ryan Fitzpatrick has stepped in and made us all believe in Fitzmagic once again. Considering that Dirk Koetter was the preseason favorite to be fired at +350, the surge of the Buccaneers is certainly something that hit the public on the blindside. They play one of the most unexpected winless teams in the NFL on Monday Night with a chance to showcase Fitzpatrick once again. By the way, this is the final week of Winston's suspension.

Week 3 Matchup - Pittsburgh -1.0 at Tampa Bay (Monday Night)

Kansas City Chiefs (2-0 SU and ATS) Patrick Mahomes has descended upon the league and is making such a statement that he's now a +900 fourth choice in the NFL MVP futures. You can hardly blame the book for reacting in this fashion after Mahomes threw 582 yards and 10 touchdowns over two weekends. The thrilling breakout of Mahomes aside, the Chiefs have a huge problem that everyone already knows about. The biggest outlying statistic amongst all the undefeated NFL teams through Week 2 is that the Chiefs are the worst defense in the league, averaging 508.0 yards against (32nd) and 32.5 points against (29th). A lot of that is explained by the strength of their opening schedule, but it's not like the load lightens down the road.

Week 3 Matchup - San Francisco at Kansas City -6.5

Denver Broncos (2-0 SU and 0-1-1 ATS) Case Keenum's Broncos are the only squad amongst the undefeated NFL teams that hasn't covered the spread. They've also faced two opponents that have yet to win a game, though Denver definitively played a part in that. The Broncos are a bit of a smoke and mirrors team right now. They churn out yards with the best of them, with 427.5 yards per game (4th) and have been stellar against the run with just 78.0 yards allowed. But the biggest indicator of why they won't sustain success is that they are ranked just 14th in scoring on both sides of the ball. They're just slightly above league average. Another advantage they've had, which has absolutely helped them stay undefeated, is the fact that they were able to play home games in the first two weeks. Now they travel to Baltimore, a notoriously difficult stadium to visit. The fact that the line jumped from BAL -3.5 to BAL -5.5 should tell you all you need to know about how the betting community feels about these Broncos.

Week 3 Matchup - Denver at Baltimore -5.5
