Colt McCoy Needs Help

With Alex Smith’s injury, the burden on leading the offense has fallen on backup Colt McCoy. While McCoy has proven his worth as a practice roster player, but he hasn’t been a great starter throughout his career and that proved true in Week 12 when he only completed 24-of-38 and threw 3 interceptions in a loss to Dallas.

McCoy should be much better under center in Week 13 with more time to prepare. Even if he is, however, McCoy won’t lead the Redskins to a victory all by himself. Washington must get the rushing game going to give Colt the help he needs.

Surprisingly, the Redskins might just do that. Chris Thompson, a key player in Jay Gruden’s strategy, is listed as probable. He’s an excellent pass catcher out of the backfield, can run through the tackles well, and could take it to the end zone on almost any carry if he gets the edge.

Springing both starter Adrian Peterson and Thompson depends on how Trent Williams plays. One of the top tackles in the league, Williams just came back from an injury in the loss to the Cowboys. If Williams can get his feet underneath him on Monday night (he seemed to have trouble in Week 12) Washington just might provide the requisite help McCoy needs to lead Washington to a win.

Eagles Search For Win Streak

The only way for the Eagles to have any shot to tie the Cowboys with a win in Week 14 is for them to get onto a streak. A streak doesn’t happen unless a team wins at least two straight and this season Philadelphia hasn’t done that.

They beat Atlanta in Week 1 and lost to Tampa Bay in Week 2. In Week 3, they beat the Colts and then lost their next two. They beat the Giants, lost to Carolina, and then beat Jacksonville before their bye.

Philly hosts Washington after having beaten the Giants for the second time this season. If the champs expect to have any shot of defending their belt, they must start a streak by taking down struggling Washington and then roughing up Dallas on the road in Week 14.

Williams is a veteran, which means he should improve his play from Week 12 to Week 13. If Thompson’s healthy enough to suit up, Washington could surprise the Eagles on the moneyline because Philly will find it difficult to contain the scat back. Most definitely, the visitors will put up a fight in this one.
