Premier League Gameweek 10: The best player prop bets for Vardy, Rashford, and Chilwell

The Premier League is heating up, with a slate of fixtures this weekend that will have massive implications at both ends of the table. Arsenal travel to Leicester with both sides trying to revive their top four ambitions, league leaders Chelsea travel to winless Newcastle, while Tottenham and Manchester United face off in a match between two clubs in crisis.

Leicester City vs. Arsenal: Jamie Vardy to score a goal (+150)

Saturday could well begin with a Vardy Party because there is no team the Leicester striker enjoys playing against more than Arsenal. Vardy has 11 goals in 13 Premier League games against the Gunners and averages a goal every 89 minutes when he faces them.

In the last five meetings of Leicester and Arsenal, Vardy has scored in four of the games and will look to keep his unbelievable run going this weekend.

He’s in red-hot form as well, scoring seven goals in the league so far, which is second in the scoring charts behind Mo Salah. Vardy may be second in that category, but he has been more clinical than Salah, converting 30% of his chances compared to the Liverpool man’s 25% success rate.

Arsenal have kept just one clean sheet in their last four league games and Mikel Arteta’s side give up an average of 14.8 shots per game this season. Vardy hogs most of the Foxes’ attempts on goal (22% share of all shots), so he should get a good chance to find the back of the net against them again.

Newcastle United vs. Chelsea: Ben Chilwell to score a goal (+525)

No strikers, no problem! Chelsea are without Romelu Lukaku who started the season so well, and now have lost Timo Werner to a hamstring injury suffered in the Champions League. But that isn’t stopping the current league leaders who dismantled Norwich 7-0 last week, even without their two most recognized strikers.

One of the more interesting players at Chelsea is Ben Chilwell who has broken into the side in the last month as a left wing-back who loves to get forward and join the attack. Chilwell has only made three league appearances for Chelsea, but in that time has scored in every game and found the net for England last month as well.

If you took away his name and position and purely looked at the stats, he would be a lot shorter in the market than +525.

Chilwell averages 2.3 shots per game for Chelsea – with only Lukaku on 2.6 averaging more – and 71% of his efforts have been on target. Despite being a defender, he gets himself into the box with 86% of his efforts coming from inside the area.

Now Chilwell and Chelsea get to take on Newcastle, who have conceded the second-most goals in the league this season (20). Only Norwich and Leicester have conceded more shots per game than the Magpies (16), who look set to be in for another rough afternoon at St James’ Park.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United: Marcus Rashford to score a goal (+280)

Once upon a time this match would have been set up as a clash between two teams slugging it out near the top of the table. But now they’re two sides in crisis, battling just to keep in touching distance of the top four.

Spurs and United are in desperate need of a win, and this game could be a thriller. In the last four Premier League fixtures between these sides, we’ve seen both teams find the net in all four games, and there’s been a total of 20 goals (an average of four per game).

For all Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s problems, his attacking options aren’t one of them. Only Liverpool and Man City average more shots per game than Man United (16.7), who can now welcome back Marcus Rashford.

The striker had surgery in the summer and was sidelined for the early part of the season, but his return has had an immediate impact as he’s scored twice already in just three appearances. The Englishman has averaged a shot every 15 minutes since he’s been back and a goal every 77 minutes.

Rashford has three goals in his last five games against Tottenham, and Spurs have conceded in each of their last 10 games in all competitions, so there are plenty of holes for the United offense to pick at.
