The best roulette betting systems

Most people will tell you roulette is a game of luck. We’re not going to lie – where the ball lands on the wheel is completely random. But there are well-known betting systems you can employ that give you a fair chance of turning a profit.

The Martingale Strategy

Like all the strategies on this page, the popular Martingale Strategy cannot guarantee you will win. But once you accept the house has an edge in roulette, you can enjoy trying to make short-term gains at least. And remember, if you do end up losing, know when to quit.

With Martingale, you must pick a 50/50 bet like red or black, odd or even, or 1-18 and 19-36. Now bet a small wager on one of the options. If you win, pocket your profit and bet the same small amount. If you lose, double your bet on the same choice – and keep going until you win.

The theory is you will eventually win back the chips and keep any profit you have banked earlier. But, and it’s a big but, you need deep pockets. You must be prepared for a random run of bad luck; with your bets doubling each hand, you might soon run out of cash. Also, you might reach the table bet limit!

Be aware, too, of the gambler’s fallacy. Just because the previous five spins have been black, it doesn’t make it any more likely the next turn will be red. Each time the wheel starts, it’s always a 50/50.

The Reverse Martingale

As you practice roulette strategy, try the reverse Martingale, where you take a 50/50 choice once more, but this time you increase your bet when you win and decrease when you lose. If you go on a winning streak, you can soon pull together a decent stack – but the trick is to walk away while you’re ahead, which is by no means easy!

The Fibonacci Roulette Strategy

We bet you didn’t expect to be learning the power of the Fibonacci sequence, named after the famous Italian mathematician. His series is used in many walks of life to predict outcomes, including financial trading.

In a practice roulette game, you can use the power of Fibonacci to try and turn a play money profit. The sequence involves generating a number by adding the previous two numbers together. For example, this is a Fibonacci sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144 etc.

Once again, pick an even-money bet and start small. If you lose, step along the sequence and keep going until you win. When you do land a win, step back two numbers and go again.

The D’Alembert Strategy

Like most strategies, the D’Alembert woks with American roulette practice and European roulette practice. It’s considered a less risky option than either of the Martingale techniques.

With D’Alembert, if you lose your 50/50 bet, you play it again with one extra unit, not doubling your stake each time. If you win, you reduce your stake by one unit. Keep going as long as you can, but don’t expect to win massive amounts.

The James Bond Strategy

We love any excuse to bring the famous British spy into a casino story. Bond was a casino fan, playing in many of the films, such as baccarat or famously poker in Casino Royale.

Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming, claimed to have a foolproof system. You must have 200 chips to play and be on European roulette practice for this to work. Put 140 on the high numbers (19-36), 50 spread over six numbers 13-18, and then ten on zero for insurance.

You will now bank a profit in all circumstances unless the ball lands in the 1-12 segments. Fleming claimed he could always win the price of dinner using his strategy, but we would advise you to eat before visiting the casino. Just in case.
