Roulette Strategy

Roulette is such a popular game that even Albert Einstein tried to develop a system to win, but the truth is that it is what’s known as a negative expectation game where you can not change the house odds (standard of 5.26 percent). Einstein’s famous conclusion was that there is no way to mathematically account for the randomness of roulette aside from trying to “steal money when the dealer’s not looking.”

However, this doesn't mean that there aren’t more favorable ways to play. Roulette is very much a grinder’s game, meaning that many players will try to hedge and mitigate loss until they “hit big”. In many roulette strategies you’ll employ when you bet, you’ll hedge around a straight bet since it has the biggest payout.

Due to the variety of wagers you can make on a roulette table, players will utilize street bets and column bets to cover a wider range of numbers. Below are two very popular roulette betting strategies that improve your odds of winning.

Double Street Quad Strategy

Wager: 6 chips Wager Types: Double Street, Quad, Straight Numbers Covered: 17 numbers will be covered

The Double Street Quad Strategy is one of the best strategies to use when you bet roulette. You employ this by placing two double street bets, one corner bet and a single straight bet. In many cases the best way to utilize this roulette strategy is to isolate your single bet so it is not covered by the double street bets or the corner bet.

You will then place two chips on each of your street bets, one bet on your quad bet and one chip on your single bet. In each case, you will end up losing chips but collecting a portion of winnings. In this example, your straight bet will pay out 30 chips instead of 35-to-1 because you will lose out on the other 5 chips you wagered.

A roulette strategy like this allows you to cover a large portion of the bet, and stay afloat with wins on the double street. If you can hit the quad and straight bet, you will enjoy a much bigger payout.

Five Quad Strategy

Wager: 6 chips Wager Types: Quad Bets and Straight Bet Numbers Covered: 21 numbers

The Five Quad Roulette Strategy allows you to cover up to 21 numbers by placing five quad bets plus an additional straight bet. If your straight bet is covered by your quad bets, then you will be covering 20 numbers total.

If the quad bets hit, you will collect eight chips but lose four in the process. If your straight bet hits you will win 35, but lose the other 5 chips that were placed on the quads (unless your straight number is also covered by a quad).

This strategy allows you to extend your time at the table, and offers a good blueprint of how to spread your money around to improve your chances of winning. Both the Five Quad Strategy and Double Street Quad Strategy are popular ways to “grind” and collect small winnings while giving you a chance to hit it big with a  straight bet.

More importantly, they offer you two different blueprints on how to use the wide range of fun, roulette wager types to build your own strategy. Risk and reward can be increased by placing a higher wager on your straight bet.
