Kenneth Walker rushes to the top of Heisman Trophy odds

A monster performance in Week 9 has seen a significant shakeup in the college football Heisman Trophy race, and the odds have shifted dramatically for multiple players.

Let’s take a look at this week’s Heisman future odds and see where things stand heading into Week 10!

Walker and Williams crash the party

For the first time since the start of the season, the Heisman odds are topped by someone who doesn’t play quarterback. Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III had a dominant performance in a 37-33 upset win over Michigan, as the nation’s leading rusher ran for 197 yards and scored five touchdowns.

Walker’s Heisman odds were on the fringe before the game, given he had scored just one touchdown in his previous four games against Power 5 teams.

However, Walker doubled his conference touchdown total in one game and launched himself from +1800 last week to the favorite at +150 this week. He now has nearly 1,200 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. As long as Michigan State continues to win, he has a terrific shot to maintain that spot.

Bryce Young’s price changed a tiny bit, as he moved from +150 to +175 and second in the odds, with Alabama on a bye this weekend.

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud saw a tiny drop in his price as well, moving from +400 to +450. He threw for 305 yards and a touchdown in the Buckeyes' defeat of Penn State on Saturday and now has gone four straight games without throwing an interception.

Fellow Buckeye running back TreVeyon Henderson held steady at +2000 this week. He rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries against the Nittany Lions, but gained just six of those yards on nine carries in the first half.

The two biggest movers this week are a pair of quarterbacks — one of whom was not available to wager on before this week.

Wake Forest signal caller Sam Hartman, the leader of the lone remaining unbeaten team in the ACC, jumped to +3300 this week, after he threw for a combined 860 yards and eight touchdowns over the past two games.

Caleb Williams is the 3rd player in Oklahoma history with at least 6 passing touchdowns and 0 interceptions in a game.

Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams is now listed at +1000 odds, following the freshman quarterback's four electric starts for the Sooners.

In the team's 52-21 win over Texas Tech on Saturday, Williams threw for 402 yards and six touchdowns, and now has 17 total touchdowns to just one interception in his last four outings.

Corral’s chances start to dim

Ole Miss lost 31-20 on the road at Auburn this weekend, but the bigger concern for the Rebels was the injury to star quarterback Matt Corral. He injured his ankle in the first half and later returned, but he was clearly affected by the injury.

He threw for 289 yards and added 45 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He also threw an interception and failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time all season.

Corral’s price dropped from +250 to +650 following the loss. He has scored two or fewer touchdowns in each of his last three games, and his performances have not been as dominant as they were early on.

Matt Corral is down two offensive linemen, his three best wide receivers and a starting tight end. And doesn’t have an ankle. I don’t know who’s getting the trophy in a month but I know who the best and toughest SOB is.

Taking a bigger fall was Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett. Available last week for +1200, Pickett threw for more than 500 yards and three touchdowns against Miami. However, he tripled his interception total for the season with a pair of turnovers, which were critical in Pitt’s first defeat of the season.

Pickett now can be had at +4000, and no longer being unbeaten deals a serious blow to his hopes.

Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder yet again had a decent performance in an unimpressive Bearcats win, throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns in their 31-12 victory over Tulane.

His odds changed from +2500 to +3300 as a result.

Alabama running back Brian Robinson Jr. was on a bye and saw his price shift from +3300 to +4000, as well.

Finally, Texas running back Bijan Robinson’s campaign is all but over, after Texas suffered its third consecutive defeat. Robinson rushed for just 43 yards on 17 carries at Baylor and went from +4000 last week to +10000.

What to keep an eye on

Walker has a pair of tasty matchups ahead, with a trip to Purdue this weekend, followed by a game against Maryland. Two strong performances should keep him atop the leaderboard.

This weekend, Young and Alabama will host LSU, whose defense has given up at least 31 points to its last three opponents.

Ole Miss hosts Liberty in a game that will give Corral a terrific opportunity to pad some stats and get back on track, should he play.

As for Stroud and Henderson, Ohio State will travel to Nebraska (a team that has given both Michigan and Michigan State problems this season), before the Buckeyes face Purdue next weekend.

Williams will not play again until November 13, when the Sooners take a trip to Baylor after their bye week.

The following weekend, Walker and Stroud will face off, when the Buckeyes travel to East Lansing.

These two games may be the biggest deciding factors down the stretch for how the final weeks of the Heisman race shake out.
