On Wednesday, team captain Steve Stricker announced his six choices to join the 12-man United States squad for the 43rd edition of the Ryder Cup.

The biennial competition between Europe and the United States was originally scheduled for 2020, but was postponed to September 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Team USA is currently favored at -200 odds to win this high-profile golf tradition, featuring some of the best players in the world.

Read below to learn everything you need to know about Ryder Cup 2021, including dates, TV coverage, course notes, odds, and more.

When is Ryder Cup 2021?

The Ryder Cup 2021 competition will tee off on Friday, Sept. 24, and run through Sunday, Sept. 26.

Opening ceremonies will be held Thursday, Sept. 23, along with a nine-hole celebrity golf scramble comprised of famous personalities from the U.S. and Europe.

Where is Ryder Cup 2021?

Whistling Straits in Haven, Wisconsin, will host the 43rd Ryder Cup.

The Pete and Alice Dye design was home to the PGA Championship in 2004, 2010, and 2015. Team USA member Jordan Spieth was runner-up to Jason Day at the major in 2015.

The Ryder Cup rotates between courses in Europe and the United States. The 2018 iteration was held at Le Golf National near Paris, France, while the most recent Ryder Cup in the United States occurred at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, in 2016.

In 2023, the Ryder Cup will visit Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome.

What is the format for the Ryder Cup?

Friday's round will consist of four foursome (alternate shot) matches in the morning and four fourball (best ball) matches in the afternoon. The reverse will happen on Saturday, while Sunday will be made up entirely of singles matches in which all team members play.

A total of 28 matches will be completed and all matches are 18 holes. Team captains can choose any eight players to participate in Friday and Saturday's rounds. The foursome and fourball matches will pit two teams of two golfers against one another.

The winner of each match scores one point for his team. A half point is awarded for any match that is tied after 18 holes.

The first team to accumulate 14 1/2 points will win the Ryder Cup. If both teams finish in a tie (14 points each), the title goes to the reigning champion.

Team Europe won most recently in 2018, and has won seven of the past nine Ryder Cup events.

How are Ryder Cup teams determined?

The 2021 U.S. Team includes the top six players in the Ryder Cup points ranking system, which is determined by money won in major championships, World Golf Championships events, and regular PGA Tour tournaments. The other six players are chosen by the team captain.

Because of the postponement of the 2020 Ryder Cup, U.S. players had an extended period to earn points, from 2019 through the BMW Championship in August 2021.

The European Team is comprised of the first four players on the European Points List, also known as the Race to Dubai, and five players who qualify based on the world points list. Three more players are selected by the team captain.

Who is on Team USA in the 2021 Ryder Cup?

Team USA will include 2021 Open Championship winner Collin Morikawa, two-time major winner Dustin Johnson, 2020 U.S. Open victor Bryson DeChambeau, four-time major champion Brooks Koepka, as well as Justin Thomas and 2021 FedEx Cup champ Patrick Cantlay.

Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Scottie Scheffler, and Daniel Berger represent Stricker's captain's picks.

Who is on Team Europe in the 2021 Ryder Cup?

Irish golfer Padraig Harrington, a three-time major winner, will captain Team Europe.

Nine players will automatically qualify for the team, based on points accumulated through this weekend's BMW PGA Championship in the U.K. Harrington will also select three captain's picks.

Team USA is also a -110 favorite to lead Team Europe at the conclusion of Day 1 and Day 2.
