Look up "consistency" in the dictionary and you’re apt to find a picture of the Los Angeles Dodgers. L.A. has won eight straight National League West titles since 2013 and now finds itself back in the World Series for the third time in four years.
The secret to the Dodgers’ success is easy to see. L.A. outspent 28 other teams in 2020, doling out more money on Mookie Betts and Clayton Kershaw than the Tampa Bay Rays spent on their entire roster. The result was a predictably stellar 43-17 record and statistical dominance across the board. The Dodgers ranked in the top five in runs, home runs, on-base percentage, slugging, and OPS, and more than lived up to their billing as preseason favorites.
L.A.'s ability to plate runs was especially evident in Game 1 of the 2020 World Series, as Dave Roberts' crew erupted for eight runs over three innings to put the contest out of reach. If the Dodgers win it all, as many suspect, it will be the franchise's seventh World Series title, and first since 1988.
