Gilgeous-Alexander, who goes by SGA, has been one of the best players in the NBA from start to finish. He led the NBA in scoring with 32.7 points per game, helping the Thunder to win an NBA-best 68 games.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s dominant performance, coupled with the dominance of the Thunder in the Western Conference, should be enough for him to secure his first NBA MVP win.

Nikola Jokic

Until the regular season came to an end, it was a neck-and-neck race between SGA and Jokic for the MVP award. Jokic, the three-time MVP, finished in the top three in points, rebounds, assists, and steals, showcasing his dominance at both ends of the floor.

The major factor working against Jokic is, ironically, his dominance. He won the award in 2020-21 and 2021-22 before voter fatigue ultimately cost him a third straight win. After winning the award again last season, it appears voters are ready for a new winner in SGA.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Greek Freak continues to be one of the most dominant players in the NBA as he crosses the 30-year-old line. Giannis finished the season second in scoring with 30.4 points per game and just outside the top five in rebounds with 11.9 per game.

Unfortunately for Giannis, this has been a two-horse race the entire season. The Bucks have been good – winning 48 games – but not nearly as dominant as the Thunder. Giannis doesn’t have the numbers that Jokic or SGA do, leaving him on the outside looking in.

Who Will Win NBA MVP?

The safest bet for NBA MVP is Gilgeous-Alexander. Though Jokic has superior numbers in nearly every category other than points, it appears that voters are simply tired of Jokic’s dominance. Odds were relatively close when the season ended but have since swung heavily in favor of SGA as voters make it clear what their intentions are.

For that reason, odds are overwhelmingly in favor of Gilgeous-Alexander. Unless something changes before the votes are cast, it appears obvious that he will win his first NBA MVP award, a huge milestone in the career of one of the most dominant young players in the game.
