*This article has since been updated to reflect Jared Goff's record against each NFL team as of Jan. 10, 2022.

The former first overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, Jared Goff has found a new home with the Detroit Lions after enduring a volatile five-year tenure with the Los Angeles Rams.

While Goff ushered in a new era of success in Los Angeles, and led the franchise to its first Super Bowl since 2001, his struggles with consistency forced head coach Sean McVay to trade him to Detroit in exchange for veteran Matt Stafford.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Goff ranked in the top five in passing yards in 2018 and 2019 while at the helm of McVay's high-octane offense.

Now he will play under first-year Lions head coach Dan Campbell in Detroit, where he will have a chance to resurrect his flagging career.

Let's look back at Goff's journey in the league so far, as we break down his regular-season and postseason records against every NFL team.

Goff vs. the Carolina Panthers

Heading into the 2019 season, Goff agreed to a four-year extension with the Los Angeles Rams worth $134 million. His $110 million in guaranteed money also marked an NFL record, at the time.

In Week 1 of 2019, Goff started the season strong with a 30-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers and went on to win three straight, before the Rams suffered a 40-35 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4.

Goff vs. the Kansas City Chiefs

In one of the most thrilling battles in recent memory, Goff squared off against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in a 2018 Monday Night Football showdown that resulted in the third-highest scoring game in NFL history.

The Rams quarterback completed 31-of-49 passes for 413 yards and four scores, and ran for another touchdown in the narrow 54-51 Rams victory.

With 1:49 remaining in regulation, Goff found tight end Gerald Everett for the go-ahead score on a 40-yard touchdown pass.

I’m one of those people who can’t forget ability. Jared Goff led the Rams to a 54-51 win over the Chiefs just two seasons ago. He threw 413 yards, 4 TDs & 0 INTs. I know he had bad ones. But man, I guess I’m just glass half full. I think Goff has what it takes to win in the NFL.

— Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) January 31, 2021

Mahomes went 33-of-46 for 478 yards, six touchdowns, and tossed three interceptions.

In total, the matchup saw 14 touchdowns scored, including three by defensive players, and 56 first downs.

Goff vs. the Minnesota Vikings

Earlier in the 2018 season, on Thursday Night Football, Goff threw a then-career-high 465 yards, with five touchdown passes on 26-of-33 passing against the Minnesota Vikings in a 38-31 win.

His production earned him a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3.

Goff also set a record for most passing yards and attempts while maintaining a perfect passer rating. Ken O'Brien previously set the record with 32 attempts and 431 yards in 1986.

For Goff's performance in Week 4, he was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week and later received NFC Offensive Player of the Month honors for September.

Goff vs. the San Francisco 49ers

Of his former foes in the NFC West, Goff's worst record is against the San Francisco 49ers, at 3-5.

In one of his three victories over the Niners, Goff passed for four touchdowns in a 48–32 win in 2018 and finished the season with 4,688 yards, the second-highest single-season total in Rams history, behind only Kurt Warner.

His 32 touchdown passes were also the third most for a single season in Rams history.

In 2019, Goff experienced a career low against San Francisco, when he threw for just 78 yards in a 20-7 defeat.

Goff faced the Niners for the first time as a member of the Lions in Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season, and came out on the wrong end of a hard-fought 41-33 loss.

Goff vs. the Seattle Seahawks

For his career, Goff is 5-4 against NFC West opponent Seattle.

In his first meeting during his rookie season, he passed for 234 yards and threw an interception in a 20–9 loss.

In his most recent regular-season outing against Seattle, Goff suffered a broken thumb in Week 16 of the 2020 season and missed the season finale against the Arizona Cardinals.

Goff returned to the lineup in the 2020 Wild Card Round against the Seahawks, but was relegated to backup behind John Wolford.

Some 12 days for Jared Goff. Thumb surgery on passing hand. Misses first game because of injury. Told middle of week John Wolford starting playoff game. Fifteen plays in, Goff replaces injured Wolford and helps #Rams be first playoff opponent to beat Carroll/Wilson in Seattle.

— Ed Werder (@WerderEdESPN) January 10, 2021

After Wolford suffered a neck injury in the first quarter, Goff stepped in and went 9-of-19 passing for 155 yards and a touchdown in the 30-20 win.

The following game, in the Divisional Round against Green Bay, Goff completed 21-of-27 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown, but was eliminated from the postseason with a 32–18 loss.

Goff vs. the Atlanta Falcons

Goff made his playoff debut at the end of the 2017 season in a game against the Atlanta Falcons.

He completed just 53% of his passes for 259 yards and a touchdown, as the Rams fell 26–13 in the Wild Card Round.

Goff ended the 2017 season with 3,804 passing yards, 28 touchdown passes, and seven interceptions. He also topped the league in yards per pass completion (12.9).

Goff vs. the New England Patriots

Following the 2018 regular season, Goff guided the Los Angeles Rams to Super Bowl LIII, where the 13-3 Rams met the 11-5 New England Patriots and then-41-year-old quarterback Tom Brady.

In what would become the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history, Goff completed 19-of-38 passes for 229 yards and threw a costly interception to Stephon Gilmore late in the fourth quarter, after the Patriots scored the only touchdown of the game.

— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) February 4, 2019

New England milked the clock down to 1:12 and kicked a field goal to seal a 13-3 victory over Los Angeles.

After ranking second in the league in yards per game and points per game during the 2018 season, the Rams tied the 1971 Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI for the fewest points scored in Super Bowl history.

Goff vs. the New Orleans Saints

Another one of Goff's most memorable outings occurred during the NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees.

The matchup is best known for the controversial no-call that ultimately allowed the Rams to send the game into overtime and win, 26-23, in extra minutes.

Goff was key in the Rams' victory push, as he passed for 297 yards, one touchdown, and threw one interception.

With the win, Goff, at 24 years, 3 months of age, became the youngest quarterback to triumph in an NFC Championship Game. He is also the fourth youngest quarterback to start a Super Bowl.
