NCAAB Power Rankings: All hail Kansas

As conference play wraps up this weekend for the Power Five schools, let’s try to make sense of it all, as we rank the top 10 teams in college basketball.

1. Kansas (27-3)

The Jayhawks survived a scare over the weekend, with an ankle injury to Udoka Azubuike, but still defeated Kansas State by four points. He then played with the sore ankle and recorded a career-high 31 points against TCU on Wednesday night and added 14 rebounds.

Kansas can clinch the Big 12 regular-season title with a win Saturday, and has all but sewn up the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

This week: at Texas Tech

2. Baylor (26-3)

The Bears remain at No. 2 because of their résumé, but a three-point loss at TCU was a shock result. They then edged Texas Tech by only three points Monday night and needed overtime to get the win.

Free-throw shooting has been an issue. Baylor has shot worse than 66% from the line in three of their last four games. That could cost them come tournament time.

This week: at West Virginia

3. Dayton (28-2)

The Flyers are one game away from an unbeaten conference season, after a dominant win at Rhode Island on Wednesday night.

Obi Toppin scored 20 points and was one of three Flyers with at least 14 in the win. They also held the Rams 28.8% shooting from the floor. It was Dayton's first dominant road win in two months.

This week: vs. George Washington

4. Gonzaga (29-2)

The Bulldogs finished their season off with a 10-point victory over Saint Mary’s, but will have nine days off before they begin play in the WCC Tournament on Monday. Barring any upsets they will likely get a shot at revenge over BYU in the final Tuesday. A conference tournament win would seal a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

5. San Diego State (29-1)

The Aztecs held onto hope of No. 1 seed, thanks to Malachi Flynn’s career-high 36 points, as they outscored Nevada by 16 in the second half of a comeback 83-76 win over the weekend.

They will likely need to win the Mountain West Tournament in convincing fashion to claim a top seed in the NCAA Tournament.

This week: Mountain West Tournament

6. Florida State (25-5)

The Seminoles are holding on for dear life at No. 6. A one-point loss at Clemson over the weekend was followed up by a two-point win at Notre Dame on Wednesday night.

A win against Boston College on Saturday would clinch a share of the ACC title.

This week: vs. Boston College

7. Louisville (24-6)

The Cardinals will look to claim the other share of that ACC title, if they can get a win on the road at Virginia this weekend.

Louisville put together an impressive second half to blow out Virginia Tech on Senior Day last weekend, as Jordan Nwora broke out of his slump with a 20-point, 12-rebound game.

Jordan Nwora is one of five finalists for the Julius Erving Award, which is given to the best small forward in college hoops. He's averaging 18 points and 7 rebounds per game this season. The other finalists: Corey Kispert, Precious Achiuwa, Saddiq Bey and Naji Marshall. pic.twitter.com/ZpysjIsvrn

This week: at Virginia

8. Michigan State (21-9)

Sparty is on a roll. The Spartans went to Penn State, overcame a 19-point hole, and won by by eight for a third consecutive win over a ranked, conference foe. That followed another convincing win at Maryland.

Now they're in a three-way tie for first place in the Big Ten, with the Terps and Wisconsin. They have a chance to win four in a row against ranked teams when Ohio State visits this weekend.

This week: vs. Ohio State

9. Villanova (23-7)

Nobody seems to want to secure the Big East regular-season title. Villanova kept its conference-title hopes alive, with a win at Seton Hall on Wednesday night, behind Saddiq Bey’s 20 points.

The Wildcats will need to beat Georgetown on the road this weekend, and hope Creighton can knock off Seton Hall, to join both teams in a three-way tie atop the standings.

This week: at Georgetown

10. Seton Hall (21-8)

Speaking of the Pirates, that game at Creighton will be their fifth ranked opponent in eight games. They are 4-3 during that stretch, and a win would secure the Big East regular-season crown.

They will need to improve on the 22.6% three-point shooting from their first meeting with the Bluejays, if they want to secure a win.

This week: at Creighton
