Premier League Parlay Picks for Matchweek 21

January is officially the longest month of the year. The calendar may say otherwise, but we know it’s true. The post-Christmas comedown, failed New Year’s resolutions and the bad weather combine to create a miserable cocktail – but a Premier League parlay could give us the boost we need as we say goodbye and good riddance to January.

There are four tempting bets on offer this weekend that pays out $77.28 from a $10 stake.

Everton to beat Newcastle (-195)

Sometimes in soccer you can be in danger of overanalyzing elements to the most minute detail. But take a step back and see the light my friends.

Put simply over the last eight games, only Manchester City have picked up more points than Everton, who have been on a roll under Carlo Ancelotti. No team has picked up fewer points in their last eight games than Newcastle, who now head to Goodison Park.

Two goals from Callum Wilson gave Newcastle a 2-1 win over Everton earlier this season, but the Toffees were going through a sticky patch then which I’m happy to forgive. After winning four and drawing with Liverpool in their opening five games, Everton hit a speed bump and won just one of their next six matches. But they are well over that blip now, and since the start of December have lost just one of their eight matches, beating Leicester, Chelsea and Arsenal on the way.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have picked up just two points from nine games and their recent away record is lost four, scored zero, conceded eight. The Toffees look a safe bet to kickstart our parlay.

Manchester City to win to nil versus Sheffield United (-185)

Sheffield United sprung one of the shocks of the season when they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday, but now they face the blue half of Manchester – and that looks set to be a different story.

Pep Guardiola’s side have found their groove and won the last seven games on the spin. They’ve scored 18 goals in those seven games and conceded just once – with a 5-0 thumping of West Brom earlier this week being their latest demolition job.

In 11 games against bottom half teams this year, City have won to nil 73% of the time, and that number jumps to 83% if you only look at home games.

Sheffield United have lost and failed to find the net in 10 of their 20 games this year, including a 1-0 defeat to City when Pep’s side were going through a rough spell in late October. This is a different beast of a City team now and they can blow away the Blades.

Arsenal and Man United – Both Teams to Score (-145)

Arsenal vs. Manchester United may not have the same stakes as it did 20 years ago, but there is still plenty to play for when the old rivals clash at The Emirates.

The Gunners are on a six-game streak where they’ve won 16 points out of a possible 18, while United’s shocking defeat to Sheffield United this week was their first loss in 14 league matches. With the two sides in decent form, it’s hard to pick a winner – but both teams to score looks like a tempting bet.

Arsenal have found the net in seven of their last eight league games, and United’s defensive woes were on full display against Sheffield United. Going forward though, no team in the league has scored as many goals as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, and they’ve failed to score just twice in 14 games.

Both teams finding the net has happened in 60% of Man United’s games this season – the highest tally of any league side – and it would be no surprise to see goals for both teams here.

Leicester to beat Leeds United (-117)

Leeds United’s free-flowing football may be entertaining to watch for the neutral, and it’s given fans a taste of exhilarating highs and desperate lows already this season. Against bottom half sides, Leeds have thumped Newcastle 5-2, beaten Fulham 4-3, and hammered West Brom 5-0. While against top eight teams they’ve lost 6-2 to Man Utd, 4-3 to Liverpool, 3-0 to Spurs, 3-1 to Chelsea, and 4-1 to Leicester, whom they face again this Saturday.

The Foxes are up to third after a seven-game unbeaten streak, and only Man Utd and Liverpool have scored more goals than Leicester this year, so Brendan Rodgers’ side will be licking their chops ahead of a trip to Elland Road.

Leicester have failed to score just once in their last 11 games and Leeds’ leaky defence is incredibly vulnerable. This could turn into a Sunday thriller if both teams bring their shooting boots, and even without the injured Jamie Vardy, Leicester should have too much firepower for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
