Everything you need to know about the Super Bowl LVI halftime show

One of the most talked-about parts of any Super Bowl has nothing to do with the action on the field. The annual halftime show draws some of the biggest names in music every year, and Super Bowl LVI is no exception. Check out all the details below!

Who is performing at the Super Bowl halftime show?

Perhaps the better question is, who isn’t? An ensemble of performers including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige will take the stage, and if prior shows are any indication, they may be joined by some surprise guests.

How long is the Super Bowl halftime show?

Halftime shows usually last between 20 and 30 minutes, which is about double the length of standard halftimes during regular-season NFL games.

Who performed at the first Super Bowl halftime show?

Super Bowl halftime shows have come a long way. For the first several years, marching bands often took the field, and that was the case at the first game in 1967. That show featured a performance from the University of Arizona Symphonic Marching Band and a jetpack pilot.

Our very first Super Bowl was played 55 years ago today at the LA Coliseum.

Where is the Super Bowl halftime show taking place?

The halftime show will take place at the site of Super Bowl LVI, SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

How are performers chosen for the Super Bowl halftime show?

The NFL considers a variety of factors when picking potential acts for the show, but they don’t have the final say. They usually hand short lists over to host cities, who select the act or acts that get booked for the show.

Has anyone performed on the Super Bowl halftime show more than once?

Several acts have appeared in multiple shows, but they form a very short list. Justin Timberlake is one of two performers to appear as part of three different shows, once with N’Sync in 2001 and twice as a solo act in 2004 (the year he was part of Janet Jackson’s, ahem, "wardrobe malfunction") and 2018.

The other three-time performer is far less widely-known. Trumpet player Al Hirt performed three times in the big game’s early years, showing up in 1967, 1970, and 1972. Meanwhile, Bruno Mars, Beyonce, and Gloria Estefan have all appeared twice.
